We all agreed that I would be the one to go. "So, the Yeerks are having a secret Leadership Meeting for the Vissers only?" Jake asked.
"Yeah, I hacked into The Sharing's files, and there it was. An announcement for a 'Vissers only' meeting," Marco said.
"We have to get in there somehow," Rachel said.
"Yeah, I know, but how? The Yeerks will be on the lookout for animal morphs," Jake asked.
"I can help you out with that," I said.
"I know you'd like to go on your first mission Griff, but this one will be dangerous, and we can't risk you. After all you know all about us," Cassie was trying to dissuade me from taking this mission, it wasn't going to work.
"I know you're worried about me Cassie, but I'm still going on the mission," I said.
"Okay, the meeting is set for monday, the 12th," Marco told us.
"That's tomorrow," Rachel said.
"Jake, is there some way we can get Griff into the meeting without them noticing her?" Cassie asked.
"Yeah, we could all attack at once, then Griff could sneak in."
"Jake, that's so crazy it just might work," Marco said.
"Okay, we know what we have to do. We'll meet back here after school," Jake said.
The meeting ended, and we all went our deferent ways, all but me and Cassie. "Griff, can I talk to you about the mission?"
I was going, no matter what. "Yeah, why?"
"You know Griff," she said.
"Yeah, I know, I guess," I knew all too well. "Why are you trying to keep me out of this one Cassie?"
Cassie took my hands and held them, then said what she had to say. "I'm just looking out for a friend."
I thought it was kind of her to look out for me, so I told her "Thanks Cass, you're my friend too. But I have to do this."
"Okay, but be careful."
"Don't worry, I will," I said. She walked away, I shifted and went off to join my friends. Alaryll was waiting for me at the edge of my hunting ground.
"Hello Alaryll," I said, as soon as I could see her.
"How did the meeting go Griff?"
"Fine. Except we have a small problem," I said.
"How small?" she asked worriedly
"The 'Vissers,' whoever they are, are going to have a secret Leadership Meeting," I told her.
"I don't know what a 'Visser' is, but I know who to ask,"
"Yeah, so do I," I said.
"Well, see ya. I've got to get lunch," I went off to do my hunting. When I'd caught a nice big deer, it started yelling at me.
<What are you doing?! Have you gone crazy?!? Let go of my neck!!!!>
"Cassie?! Were you following me??"
<Yes. I was, I wanted to give you some advice. Before Rachel could.>
"Why before Rachel???" I asked, confused.
<Rachel is my best friend. But, as Marco would say, she's insane.>
"Oh," I said, if only because I could think of nothing else.
<Well Griff, good luck with the mission tomorrow. And be careful.>
And with that she ran off into the forest. 'Good ol Cassie, she's just like my Mother.'I thought as I ran out into a clearing, I was starving. And I hoped my lunch wouldn't yell at me this time. My next catch was a nice big moose.
And, this time, it didn't talk.
And I would really not want that. Okay, now I was at the barn. I shifted to my human body, and put on the clothes Cassie always had there for me. I was tired from all my the flying I had done so I went for a nap. The next thing I knew, Cassie was shaking me awake.
"Huh?! What? Ohh, oh hi guys. I guess I fell asleep, didn't I?"
"Yeah, I guess you could say that." That, of coarse, was Marco.
"We're going to have to set this up really fast," Jake said.
"Oh great, no planing, no strategy. We just go there and do this? Are we INSANE or what?" Marco, always the pessimist.
"Marco, you weinee. I have no problem with this," Rachel said. She's right Marco IS a weinee.
"This is a diversionary tactic, there was never going to be any planing in the first place," I pointed out.
"Okay, lets do it," Marco, of all people, said.
"Isn't that my line?" Rachel asked tauntingly.
"Yes, I was just saving you the trouble of saying it."
"How kind," Rachel said, very sarcastically. Basically the plan was for all of them to attack the compound where the Vissers were meeting at once, while I snuck in and pretended to be one of them, which would be really hard because I hate Yeerks with a passion.
"Okay people, and Aliens, lets go."
"Yeah, lets do this!" Rachel the undisputed Warrier Queen.
"Cheater," Marco.
<Okay, go just a foot to your left, that's good. Now, keep going that way until you come to a dirt and gravel path, then go right.>
We kept on going, for me it was getting tough. I was panting and we'd only been out there one hour.
"Griff are you feeling okay?" Jake asked.
"Do I sound okay?" I said between gasps for air.
"What's wrong?"
"Aside from the fact that I feel like I've been trekking across the Sahara for a week, I feel fine."
"Oh,"
"Yeah, oh."
After that little exchange we went back to walking. The thick pads on my lion feet made the trip a little easier, but my thick furred and feathered coat more than made up for that.
It was hot, and getting hotter, I was looking at the trees to distract myself from the fact that I was starting to get very hungery. My metabolisim is twice as fast as a human's, it makes me both faster and slower, when I've had a good meal I can cover about twenty miles in twenty minutes.
"Okay, it's time. Everyone get ready to morph."
"Good luck, Griff," Cassie said, just before her mouth erupted into a wolf snout.
I ran into a denser patch of forest and hid, waiting to make my move. It was beyond weird waching my friends turn into a Tiger, a Wolf, and a Gorilla.
As soon as they were all morphed I jumped out of my hiding place, right for Ax.
"Andalite scum!!"
It was a spur-of-the-moment action, but it got one heck of a reaction, Ax and I ran at eachother like two trains about to collide, pretty soon I was mock-fighting the Animorphs.
I was trying to look like a normal human-Controller Visser who'd just ran into the 'Andalite Bandits', while on my way to a secret Visser Counsil meeting.
I was doging Ax's tail when I noticed, just out of the range of normal human hearing, swift footfalls and the sound of weapons, guns mostly, being readied.
"Okay guys, they're comming," I said in a whisper.
Jake, in his big-bad-battle-morph the tiger, went shooting past me, it was a good thing the Animorphs had me on their side, if I were a real Controller, a Griffon-Controller the Animorphs would have it a lot harder.
In my true form I have mucles so strong I can crush rocks, or bend steel bars about as thick as my wrist.
